Dear Families,

This Sunday’s second reading is one of the more well-known bible passages, and one of the most often quoted. It is often read at weddings, in fact, we used it at our own wedding sixteen years ago!

It is a great reminder that love, true selfless all-encompassing love, is not showy. It is is not about the grand gestures of over the top proposals, lavish gifts or social media pronouncements. True love is the daily practice of patience. This love is for everyone, not just for our significant others. True love is how we treat everyone.

There was this church song that I recall singing all the time growing up and I am sure many of you know it:

We will work with each other, we will work side by side
We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love

I am paraphrasing above, but we can see that the sentiments in this song reminds that us that our quiet actions speak volumes. How we walk with each other, how we work with one another and most importantly how we pray with one another shows others how we love each other. In these times of potential divisiveness, let us remember that the true love is a gift that God has given us to be shared.

Let us continue to pray for one another and our community.
