Grade 5 – Term 1:
During the first term, the students will review their basic recorder skills, along with the fingerings for B, A, G, C, D, F#, and E. Students will review musical notation in the treble clef, as well as counting in common time. Through our non-directed listening program, the students will continue to enhance their listening skills as they broaden their listening experiences. The Grade Fives will also participate in preparations for our Christmas musical, which will include the singing of songs of greater difficulty, with a concentration on in-tune singing.

Grade 5 – Term 2:
During the second term, the students will work on vocal and dramatic skills during the Christmas Musical. They will continue to develop their skills on the recorder, learning the fingerings for notes F natural and B flat. The students will increase their theoretical knowledge of chromatics, rhythmic analysis, eighth notes/rests, key signatures, and first/second endings. In addition, the Grade Fives will continue to develop their listening skills through our non-directed listening program.

Grade 5 – Term 3:
During the final term, the students will continue to develop their listening skills and music appreciation through our non-directed listening program. They will continue to develop their skills on the recorder, learning the fingerings for low C, D, and E. Theoretical studies will include time signatures (4/4, 3/4, and now 2/4), pick-up notes, dotted notes, tempos, slurs, and rhythmic counting.
