Dear Parents,
Mrs. Kravjanksi and I attended a Digital Threat Assessment (DTA) workshop yesterday with Safer Schools Together. It was a very eye opening day, with lots of interesting and alarming things that were brought to our attention. Our children today have learned to outsmart us as parents and educators with their social media activity. More so than ever, we as parents must ensure that we are aware of our children’s social media activity and that we stay one step ahead of them. It is important that we have parameters in place for our children, and exercise our duty as parents to do what is best for them, not what they think is best for them. As a parent, I am in the same boat as you in having to be diligent in staying on top of what my children do. The challenges of putting parameters in place for our children are far less than the challenges of having help our children deal with the aftermath of a poor decision. In my role, I have dealt with many social media related issues that have even involved the police. The most common response from parents is that they had no idea.
A fantastic resource
was shared with us yesterday that I feel is important to pass onto you. Please
take some time to read through it and hopefully implement the contract that is
also attached.
